Knit In February

Lucy

February was pretty uneventful on the farm. We are just patiently waiting for Spring. I spent more time reading than I did knitting, but I dd manage some.

I finished a tote/bag that I had started a while back.

I used some handspun Border Leicester, dyed with Cushings, mahogony. The yarn was made from Lucy's fleece.  She has a more course fleece than some of our other BL sheep, and it works great for these types of projects.

I didn't follow the pattern exactly,  I made mine a bit smaller and I didn't  fnd straps that I liked for the bag, so I knit/felt  a set.  It was one of those projects, that I just about ran out of yarn (nail biter). It wasn't like I could go to the store and pick up another skein. I didn't take notes when dying, so getting the exact same color, would have been near impossible.Thankfully, I finished it, with none to spare.

I also did a few small projects, one being a sweater for my iPhone. Quick and easy.

Yarn: Lion Brand Vanna's Choice

Only 7 more days until Spring!

  1. Lucy is so gorgeous, and her wool made a fabulous bag. Love the phone sweater, too. So cute.

  2. Boy, how fortunate you had just enough hand spun and hand dyed yarn for your project ! Most of my sheep's wool produces a coarser yarn too, but I love it and their yarn allows me to be very creative in my weaving and rugs.

I always love reading your blog, and agree, we're waiting "patiently" for winter to be over and spring to begin. Good time for reading, spinning, weaving, and simply resting.

  4. Ah - I need a sweater for my phone! Usually I stick it in my back pocket. Sometimes I forget it's there, take off my pants and throw them in the hamper. Later, when I'm looking EVERYWHERE for my phone, I will find it with scads of messages and/or calls I missed! If I had a sweater, I could just set it down where I am working and hopefully not forget it! Lol BTW, I am also not patiently waiting for spring. We have had some spring-like weather here for the last few days, but I know old man winter will come back again before we finally hit the "real" spring weather.
