It's December and I just finished putting up apples. That is something that I usually do in October.
I wasn't even planning on apples, but I seen some seconds for 6.99 a bushel, and I couldn't resist! I picked up what they had available in seconds and added 2 more regulars.
4 bushels later....
Applesauce
A favorite around here and a great use for seconds. The Kitchen Aid fruit strainer attachment makes the job a whole lot easier.
We like our applesauce simple-just some added cinnamon before putting them in the jars.
Apple Pie Filling
Another favorite!
I was planning on canning the pie filling, but ended up putting it up in the freezer. I was just not up for anymore canning.
I tried a new recipe-
Apple Pie Filling
Dehydrated Apples
This job goes quickly with a kitchen gadget-Apple Peeler-Slicer-Corer
Unfortunately, these do not last long. They seem to get eaten, almost as soon as they get taken off the dehydrator racks.
They lasted only a few days!
Now that the apples are done, maybe I can move on into December. I feel like I am a good month behind....
What a great deal on those apples! I have never thought to look for them. Freezing apple pie filling is so much easier than canning!! Looks like lots of great pies this winter!
ReplyDeleteyes, lucky for me they didn't have more!! I would still be working on apples :)
DeleteI really need to get me one of those peeling gadgets...I agree with Liz - great deal on those apples!

It is one of my favorite gadgets!! Thanks for stopping by!
DeleteOh now better late than never my Mom always said. This is going to be great in the middle of this winter. Hug B
ReplyDeleteIt is true, I will appreciate the extra work later :)
DeleteI love home canned applesauce. The goats love to get the leftovers too. I'm considering drying fruit for our pet rabbit now, for extra nutrition (apples are one I think he can eat too).
