Venison Roast Recipe using Electric Pressure Cooker

I have never been a big fan of venison! Mike grew up eating venison, I on the other hand had never even tried it until we were married.

I have to admit my first exposure did not leave a good impression!

Years later we had some ground venison given to us and I actually didn't mind using it in chili and tacos.

I found out I liked venison summer sausage, a lot! And after making some jerky, discovered another way to eat venison.

This weekend I was looking through the freezer and found some Roast my Uncle had given us last winter. I thought, why not?  I was pleasantly surprised!

Venison Roast in Electric Pressure Cooker

1 Venison Roast
1 Chopped Onion
1-2 cloves garlic, minced
1 apple, cored and quartered
1 1/2 cups Beef Broth

Turn the electric pressure cooker onto brown.
Put a few Tablespoons of olive oil in the pressure cooker and add the roast.
Brown the roast on both sides, add the onion, garlic, apple, and broth.

Lock the lid into place.
Set the timer for 60 minutes on High Pressure.
After the timer goes off, let pressure go down completely before removing lid.

I love using the electric pressure cooker, it has been on of my best kitchen investments!

  1. The handbook for my canner says it can also be used as a pressure cooker too, but I'm in no rush to try it. Kudos to you though. The recipe sounds good.

    1. I have a recipe book that came with my canners and they can be used as pressure cookers too, I have never used them for that purpose.
      I love the electric pressure cooker because I can plug it in, set it and walk away :)

  2. We have been without venison for a couple of years to due our deer numbers being down and I have missed it so much. We grind our own with port roast added for fat and it's so much better than ground beef in my opinion. Thanks for the recipe Sandra!

      We have so many deer in our area. We can't drive to town without having to stop several times for the deer crossing the road.

  4. I can smell it from here! Yum. We eat venison in lieu of beef. It's much more cost effective and grass....err landscaping and vegetable garden-fed.

  5. I'm not a big venison fan, but once made some in the crockpot with a jar of bbq sauce, and it was pretty tasty.

  9. Really cook it that long (60 mins ) in the Pressure cooker.

    1. Yes, it wasn't overlooked for me. I used what was recommended for roast.
