Soap Making, CHECK

About four weeks ago I made my first attempt at making Goats Milk Soap!  It is something that I have wanted to do for years and now I can FINALLY say I did it!

It was intimidating and working with lye was a little scary but I read and reread the directions and took the necessary precautions and it worked out pretty well.

I used the book "Milk Soapmaking"  by Anne L. Watson.  I purchased the book from Amazon and loved the simple,  well laid out directions. I used the "cool technique".  After making it, the hardest part was waiting 4 weeks to use it! Mike finally used a bar last night and it appears that my first attempt was successful!

I am looking forward to making another batch, so it will be ready in time for Christmas.

I can now say that I am a soap maker, albeit a green one!

  1. Yay for your first soap! It's something I have always wanted to try but never got up the gumption to actually do it.

  2. Congratulations on making a good batch of soap on your first try! I know how that feels. I made my first soap in 1994 and haven't looked back or bought a bar since. It's a great feeling to supply your own soap for your family. :)

    1. Thanks!
You can use other kinds of milk, according to the soap making book that I am using.

  5. What a coincidence! I made soap today, and here is your post about soapmaking. I'm so happy your first batch turned out well. I use the cold process method too.

  12. Now your goats are working for you. Careful - soap making is an addiction.

  13. I knew you could do it! And isn't it wonderful to use your own soap? You'll not ever want to use store bought soap ever again now.

    1. Yes, I love the soap, I just need to figure out the correct amount of essential oils to add.
