Cooking Chickpeas in Electric Pressure Cooker

My family really likes Hummus but I don't like the cost! My daughter makes it on occasion, using canned beans. I decided to try using the Pressure Cooker and dried beans.

I have to admit, that when I went to the bulk food store in our area, I spent a lot of time looking for chickpeas. I didn't know that Garbanzo beans and Chickpeas are the same thing! Learn something new every day!

I didn't plan ahead, so I cooked the beans without soaking. They turned out great!

Chickpeas in Electric Pressure Cooker
3 cups water
1 cup dried chickpeas

Rinse and sort the chickpeas.
Place the water and chickpeas in the pressure cooker.
Lock the lid in place. Make sure the lid is sealed.
Pressure cook on High for 35 minutes. Let pressure down naturally.

Use in your favorite recipes!

Very easy! Now to find some good Hummus recipes...

  2. Wow, my daughter love Hummus too. Sandra do you like your electric pressure cooker? I have been debating whether or not to buy one. I use a regular pressure cooker but wondered if it is a lot easier to use this new electric one? Thanks

I love it! One of my favorite features is that I can turn it on and walk away!

  4. Cool, I didn't know you could cook the beans like this! I really like hummus as well and make it homemade. It is better with freshly cooked beans rather than canned beans.

  5. I didn't learn until a couple of years ago that chickpeas and garbanzo beans were the same thing...lol. And I didn't know that's what hummus was made of. I'm not very cultured....lol.

  6. I love hummus too and also make mine from dry chickpeas, BUT I use the crockpot which takes 4+ hours. I never thought of using my pressure cooker! Next batch I will give this a try. The dry beans definitely make the difference I think in the hummus. Thanks for sharing!

  8. I love cooking with a pressure cooker because this type of cooking retains more nutrients than any other type of cooking. Once you get the hang of it, it is easy, fast, and delicious. The meat always turns out so moist.

Here are some of my favorite pressure cooker recipes.
