Apple Orchard Visit

October is a perfect time for a field trip to an apple orchard.  A local, family owned orchard agreed to let our home school co-op come out and visit for the afternoon.

What boy or girl (young or old) doesn't love a horse drawn wagon ride?

We also had a sit down with one of the owners and heard about what it takes to run an orchard. It sounds like a lot of work! This farm, Orchard Beach Farm,  has been in the family for over a hundred years. The orchard was planted in 1930-1932.   The apples are varieties that our grandparents and parents enjoyed. We picked some Northern Spy, which according to the chart they passed out, is good for eating, pies, baking, salads, sauce, and freezer slices. Figured we couldn't go wrong with those!

Weather was perfect, the host were wonderful, and the Apple Orchard was beautiful!
Great Day!

Have you done any  apple picking this fall??

  1. Hi Sanda,
Didn't you love the wagon ride ! Apple picking is such a fun Autumn activity.
Our Apple tree actually had apples mature and ready before fall harvest so they are now all off the tree.
