Easy Pear Butter Recipe

We had a lot of pears this year and after canning some pear halves and sauce, I decided to try something new, Pear Butter.

I found a VERY easy recipe using a Crock Pot to cook down the sauce.

Pear Butter
8 quarts Pear Sauce
1 cup Orange Juice

6 cups Sugar
1 1/2 teaspoons Nutmeg
1/4 teaspoon Allspice

This wouldn't fit into one crock pot. I divided the recipe and placed into two crock pots.
When you place the lid on the crock pot leave a gap to let the steam escape.

Let it cook down. Check after 12 hours, if it hasn't reduced enough continue to cook down.
When it gets to the consistency you like, place in jars and process. (use approved canning method)

Processing time in a water bath is 5 minutes for pints/half pints. (0-1,000 feet altitude)

My first batch was a small one to see if we would like it. That batch went into the freezer.
A side benefit, it made the kitchen smell good while it is was cooking down!

    1. I hope you like it!
I love that it is so easy!

  2. This sounds delicious! Do you use it like a spread?

    1. Yes, the girls have been putting it on toast. And I think it will be really good as an ice cream topping!

    2. A pear flavoured ice-cream topping sounds really good.

  3. Thank you for sharing at Tuesdays with a Twist! We're live again this week. Come on over and share what you've been working on!

  4. I made blueberry butter last year for the first time. It happened by accident and i didn't have enough for everyone. After reading this I think that you could cut down on time and juice the pears first. Then put the pulp through a sieve to remove the seeds and skin. You will have awesome juice for jelly or drinking and the pulp for the butter at half the time. thanks for the recipe and will try it my way first.

    1. Blueberry butter sounds wonderful!
This recipe was very easy for me, because I already had made the pear sauce, it was extra.

Thank you for stopping by the farm!
