Sandwich Spread (Nostalgia)




 We have a local meat shop that we like to visit. They make the best brats, all sorts of varieties. Our favorite is Hawaiian. They also make great sausage etc..

On my last visit, Mike came along and spotted some sandwich spread in the cooler. He was instantly reminded of  his Grandmother and the sandwiches she use to make. We worked our way to the counter and purchased some Beef Bologna and a promise from me that I would make some.

My mom use to make this as well. It isn't one of my favorites but it is easy and who doesn't love making their husband smile?









Sandwich Spread

2 pounds bologna
1 pint Dill Relish
1 1/2-2  cups Miracle Whip



Cut up bologna in chunks, put through a meat grinder.
I have a Kitchen Aid and own almost every attachment that you can buy for it. This includes a meat grinder, works great!

In a bowl, mix ground bologna, Dill Relish, and Miracle Whip (or Mayonnaise). I add just enough to hold the spread together. I did not use exact measurements. The above amount is approximate.
Chill, and serve!

I noticed that some recipes call for black olives, and boiled eggs.I stuck with the version my husband remembers.
The Dill Relish I used is home canned and has just the right kick, it was perfect for this spread.

  1. Happy memories! I love being reminded of something I ate when I was younger. There are such comforting memories associated with food my Grandma made me :)

  5. Oh this really brings back some memories from my childhood. My mom also used to make it...kinda like a ham salad but it's bologna instead! I actually love this stuff and now I WANT SOME! I don't have a meat grinder but do you think a food processor would do the job?
